Buying a Highchair

High Chair

A high chair is a piece of furniture that is useful when a parent is feeding a baby or young toddler. They're very handy for helping to teach a baby to feed himself as the seat is quite high up, which means that a person of adult height can spoon-feed the child comfortably from a standing position.

A highchair is the best place to start teaching your child how to eat from a plate, and how to use spoons and forks. This is one of the things you should consider if you are thinking of buying a high chair.

Highchairs often have a wide base to increase stability. This can be very important as babies quite often like to rock backwards and forwards which can mean that unstable chairs topple over.

A tray is attached to the arms of the high chair, so that the parent can rest the food on it; the toddler can then pick up and eat the food himself, or food can be spoon-fed to a baby.

High chairs generally have seat belts to strap the child in. This can be important to prevent younger babies falling out, or an aid in preventing toddlers escaping.

A lot of children will enjoy sitting  in a highchair so that they can get a better view of what is going on in their home. If you give them some crayons and a colouring book to colour in on the table they will be even happier.

Booster Seat

A booster seat is used in conjunction with a regular chair to boost the height of a child so that he can sit comfortably at a table. Some boosters are just blocks of plastic, with a moulded seat for the child to sit on. Others are more complex and are designed to fold up. Some have a detachable tray.
